Bamse Came Too is a picture book of adventures of the brave St. Bernard dog, Bamse, during his journey from Norway to Scotland at the beginning of World War II. He becomes a member of the Norwegian Free Navy and journeys aboard the KNM Thorodd on an exciting adventure with a very happy outcome.
Bamse Came Too is available on Amazon, Waterstones and through most good bookshops.
Anna Mandell first learned of Bamse on a visit to Scotland in 2012. His story was an amazing one and totally captured her imagination.
Bamse was born in 1937 and lived with the Hafto family in Honningsvåg, Norway. In 1940, during the invasion of his country, he became a crew member of the KNM Thorodd, a ship that formed part of the flotilla that set off alongside the HMS Devonshire carrying King Haakon to Great Britain.
Anna is greatly indebted for the help and support by members of The Montrose Heritage Trust. It is their efforts that have helped maintain the recognition that brave Bamse rightly deserves. The trust was the driving force behind the erection of the now famous Bamse statue by the waterside in Montrose.
